I've managed quite well for many years with traditional headlight technology. LED lights are great but they need special optics. So probably better to just stick with halogen. You also have more flexibility with HID’s as you can choose the color light you want. Since HID and LED have different focal points, they wont work well if you put them in a headlight assembly that was made for halogen bulbs. Apart from the fact its an instant MOT failure, the difference between halogen and HID (Xenon/LED) housings is more than just the bulb, they often require special cooling due to the extra heat and have to have automatic height adaption to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers. The downside is that they get dimmer with time, tend to be unreliable if you don’t buy quality sets, and need to heat up. But, the extra heat will (can) melt the plastic housing down the line. HID lights outshine around 99 of LED bulbs. Go for the Osram rallye and Hella relay, mate. There are numerous technical videos that shows why you do not get sharp cut-off and consistent pbeam pattern from LED in Halogen reflector setup. The steering responsive feature is awesome, but if it costs an arm and a leg to replace, I'm not sure I want it. Do NOT put LED in Halogen reflector setup, they are not meant for this. Hopefully, as the designs mature, these issues will be resolved.

Retrofits are generally a gamble, and often downright unsafe, but, from what I've read, some of the most modern stock LED headlights from major automakers are actually less safe than old halogen technology (mostly lower cost vehicles, of course). HIDs fail either at the capsule or the ballast, neither of which will cost you much more than $100 to replace, and replacement is simple. Ask questions and share information about using LED lights in your home, your projects, your car, your stage. It sounds as though these LED units are not serviceable, although I haven't seen much posted on the topic. Affording better lighting / The best way to spend your money A HID retrofit is the proper way to go to get world class performance that is safe for oncoming drivers.

At this point, I think maintenance costs might favor HIDs since I've come across at least one report here of an Outback owner having to replace a single stock LED headlight and their dealer billed $800 for the repair. HID lights have many advantages over traditional halogen lights. The high power LED is certainly the more promising technology, but it's a bit early to get a clear picture in terms of performance and reliability. the second thing is that the difference in spread between the two is pretty major and this is a BAD thing. HID output quality varies a TON the cheap stuff is garbage, and even worse if not in a HID-specific projector.

I think the takeaway here is that both technologies can give excellent results when properly implemented, but you're not guaranteed any particular level of performance with any light source. First, it looks like the HID kit on the right is a cheapy aftermarket unit, based on the intensity and the color.
